Bangkok Bay began in 1993 when four sisters opened a Thai restaurant in Redwood City. Located at 825 El Camino Real, the restaurant has been part of the local dining community for more than three decades.

Over the years, Bangkok Bay earned recognition from local diners, including The Almanac’s Readers’ Choice award for Thai food in 2009. Its early anniversary celebrations featured traditional Thai dancing and music, bringing a taste of Thai culture to the community alongside its cuisine.

Today, Bangkok Bay continues to welcome guests on El Camino Real, carrying forward a history rooted in family, Thai food, and its connection to Redwood City.

  1. Bangkok Bay Thai Cuisine has been serving classic Thai curries, soups, rice and noodle dishes in downtown Redwood City since 1993, and I’m glad I finally tried them. The flavors were really delicious, and I especially appreciated that they have a vegan-friendly lunch menu by default with customizable protein options like chicken, pork, beef, prawns, tofu, or veggies. I ordered the red curry with tofu and asked for it spicy, tastes so good. The curry came with zucchini, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, and basil in a super creamy coconut milk sauce. Slightly sweet and rich, perfect with white rice. Very comforting and surprisingly filling for the price ($15.95). Definitely a great lunch spot downtown, would highly recommend if you’re craving Thai food in RWC.

  2. Pumpkin curry🍛 . I have never had Pumpkin curry but now it's one of my favorites. My gosh! It's savory, well-balanced flavors. It tasted like sweet potato but better. I had seafood added and with white jasmine rice, made the meal exquisite. I don't know how this was prepared but hats off to the Chef! This meal 😋.

  4. I was surprised this Thai food was so good! Given the general lack of Asian spots in RWC, I had tempered my expectations; but this place delivered in spades when it comes to flavor and vibes. The facade of the store isn't the fanciest, but they've got a really smart interior with some incredible art and decor - on par with the typical small Thai joint vibes that are perfect for a laid back lunch or dinner. We ordered Thai iced tea, Thai iced green tea (a first for us!), Pad Thai + shrimp, green curry, papaya salad, and appetizer combo platter. The drinks, curry, salad, and combo platter were an absolute 5 stars - get it! The Pad Thai was flavorful - but maybe a bit too much sweet / salty and not enough citrus for me. Gotta give a special shout out to the portion sizes: everyone went home full and with a takeout container. I'm coming back for sure!

Does Bangkok Bay offer catering?
Yes. The catering menu covers appetizers by the 25 pieces, salads, entrees, curries, and noodles and fried rice by the tray. Please place catering orders 24 hours in advance by calling the restaurant.
Do you have loyalty rewards?
We do. There is a loyalty rewards program for regulars: ask about it when you order online or in the restaurant.
When is lunch served?
The lunch menu is available Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Lunch wok dishes and curries are served with jasmine rice and salad. The dinner menu is available all day.
What kind of Thai food do you cook?
Classic Thai food, cooked here since 1993. Thai curry in green, red, yellow, panang and massaman, including salmon panang. Thai noodles from the wok, pad thai, pad see-ew and drunken noodles, plus a separate noodle menu with khao soi and pork noodle soup. Thai seafood such as prawns in the clay pot, three flavor fish, spicy catfish, fish cakes and fried calamari. And soups and salads: tom yum, tom kha, som tum and larb.
Do you have vegetarian Thai food?
Yes. Most entrees, curries, noodles and fried rice come with a choice of chicken, tofu or mixed vegetables, so a large part of the menu can be made as vegetarian Thai food with tofu or vegetables instead of meat. Tell us when you order.
